Notes from our Troops… to Republican Women of Clallam County (RWCC)

9/2010: Dear Ladies of the RWCC,

Thank you so much for supporting my team and me during our deployment to Afghanistan! We are on our way home from a very challenging year. It makes a difference knowing so many people back home appreciate the sacrifices we made.

I am very much looking forward to enjoying a beautiful midwest Autumn. And, the way things are shaping up, I cannot wait for the November elections! It’s time for a New Hope & Change!

Thank you again for the thoughts, prayers, and care packages!

Yours,

LCDR Brian Gummin

12/1/09: It’s almost one in the morning in Clallam County right now but its 5:39 in the evening in Japan on the first. I just recieved your package and wanted to thank all of you for your support. It’s the second package you have sent me while I’ve been in Japan but I didn’t have time to repsond back the last time. It meant a lot to me to get your package, because other than my parents I don’t get much mail. Fortunately, I will be able to spend Christmas in the States with my family!

Anyways I just wanted to thank all the Republican Women of Clallam County for all the work and support.

Sincerely,

To the kind and thoughtful ladies at RWCC –

Thank you for the letter and the box. It was a great pick-me-up!

I appreciated the hygiene supplies; it came right on time. The contact lens fluid came in handy for my buddy who broke his nice glasses and had to revert back to contacts.

I appreciate teh support from my Party; I joined up to deploy and your kindness and support to me and my family are a great blessing. I met a couple of politicians before I left; from the “other” side, and it made me proud of my choices to be on this side of teh scale.

Although it sucks being away from my fiance and family, and a good cold beer… Afghanistan isn’t totally terrible… I’m in relatively quiet area; it’s all several miles from me.

I’m encouraged by my faith, my loved ones, and care packages, so I’m doin’ alright for the most part.
Again, thanks for your support and prayers.

God bless.

SPC Phil Lumpkin

5/29/09 – From the mother of two soldiers:

“Thank you to you and all the Republican Women of Clallam County for your
faithful support of our military, and especially of our sons. The packages are certainly appreciated by the troops.

Blessings,
Joanne”

From a soldier serving in Kuwait:

“Thank you for the wonderful items you sent to me while I was deployed to the Arabian Peninsula.  I’m sorry it took me so long to write, but the pace of operations leaves little time for letter writing which in some ways is good as it makes the time pass by so quickly.

“As I understand it, my mother-in-law, Gail DeLorm provided my name to you.  I shared the gifts and warm thoughts you sent with my troops.  I have 22 soldiers, Marines and Airmen working for me.  Most of those troops are very young, 18-24, and this is their first time deployed so far from home.  Your thoughts and well wishes are greatly appreciated.

“I am soon to return to Sequim for leave enroute to my final Army posting in Atlanta.  By this time next year, I will have served my 20 years and be able to retire/return to Sequim where my wife Tracy and two boys Chris & Matt are.

“It is always a great pleasure for all of us serving our Nation so far away to receive well wishes and support from the homefront.  I greatly appreciate your efforts and thank you once again.

Respectfully,

Major Ronald A. Venegas

06 Oct 2006:
MY NAME IS SGT WILLIAMS, I AM SERVING IN IRAQ AND HAVE BEEN MOVING AROUND THIS COUNTRY WITHOUT A REGULAR HOME BASE.

WE HAVE FINALLY SET UP HOME IN MOSUL. MY PLATOON HAD A SOLDIER SIGN US UP FOR ANY SOLDIER HE HAS SINCE MOVED TO ANOTHER PLATOON AND HAS TAKEN HIS ANYSOLDIER SUPPORT WITH HIM.

WE ARE NOW LIVING IN METAL BOXES CALLED CHU’s (CONTAINER HOUSING UNITS..YOU HAVE TO LOVE ARMY ACRONYMS)THEY HAVE 220V ELECTRICITY. SOME SOLDIERS HAVE THE ABILITY TO MAKE HOT WATER FOR CUP OF SOUP AND THE LIKE.

I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THE CUP OF SOUP AND RAMEN NOODLES ARE BIG FAVORITES WITH MY SOLDIERS. THEY PREFER THEM OVER THE MRE. MY FAVORITE IS TWIZZLERS.

I HAVE OTHER SOLDIERS THAT ENJOY THE FLAMING HOT CHEETO’S (ALTHOUGH I DON’T KNOW WHY). AND MOST SOLDIERS LIKE THE GUMMY BEAR TYPE CANDY. THEY SEEM TO LIKE TORTURING THEMSELVES WITH THE REAL SOUR CANDY. CHEWING GUM IS ALSO LIKED ESPECIALLY THE TEETH WHITENING KIND.

ALSO MY GUYS ENJOY MOVIES AND PLAYING GAMES THEY HAVE A PSP AND PLAY GRAND THEFT AUTO. WE ONLY HAVE ONE BUT WE SHARE MOST OF THE TIME. GAMES FOR IT WOULD BE NICE (ALTHOUGH IT WOULD PROBALLY SLOW DOWN THE PASSING AROUND OF THE GAME)

I KNOW SOCKS ARE NEEDED AND THE TAN T-SHIRTS IN SIZE MEDIUM AND LARGE. SUN GLASSES ARE HARD TO COME BY FOR THOSE OF US WHO ARE LOOKING THROUGH SCRATCHED LENSES. THEY ENJOY MUSIC RAP, GRUNGE, ROCK, AND MY FAVORITE COUNTRY.

ALSO I HAVE ONE SOLDIER WHO LOVES TO LIFT WEIGHTS AND TAKES SUPPLIMENTS. HE ALSO LIKES READING MUSCLE MAGS. LIFE IS GETTING BETTER BUT THESE THINGS ARE HARD TO FIND.
WE ARE A CAVALRY UNIT OUT OF FT LEWIS WASHINGTON. I HAVE SOLDIERS FROM CA, KS, IN, MO, AND THE NEW ENGLAND AREA, AND SOME FROM WASHINGTON STATE. OUR AGES RANGE FROM 20 IN A COUPLE OF DAYS TO MY SELF AT 37. I AM NOT USED TO ASKING FOR THINGS BUT FOR MY GUYS WHO WERE GETTING WHAT THEY WANTED AND NOW SEEING IT GO TO OTHERS I HAD TO TRY.
SINCERLY
